leviathan by philip hoare
the winner of this years samuel johnsons prize for non fiction .the book is a history of mans encounters with whales .hoare mainly talks about new england whaling industry and melville .the writing style is similar to w g sebald as like sebald hoare gives you small snippets of information at a time .he describe the rise and orgins of whaling ,how it settle in new england and whitby in the uk .the way melville went to sea and fianlly himself to go out and view whales in the wild .i really enjoyed this book it was well research and hoares prose are clear and to the point
